TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop a 250MW green hydrogen project in the Netherlands. This initiative is part of a broader agreement under which TotalEnergies will offtake approximately 45,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually from two Dutch projects by 2029, supporting its refinery decarbonization efforts.
The two French companies have signed an undisclosed agreement to establish a 50-50 joint venture that will oversee the construction and operation of the large-scale electrolyzer. This facility will produce hydrogen using renewable energy sources, significantly reducing carbon emissions in industrial applications.
The project aligns with the Netherlands’ ambition to become a leading hydrogen hub in Europe, leveraging its offshore wind capacity and existing gas infrastructure. By replacing fossil-based hydrogen with green hydrogen, the partnership aims to accelerate the transition toward cleaner energy and contribute to Europe’s broader decarbonization goals.
Further details regarding the project’s location, investment structure, and timeline are expected to be announced in the coming months.
