ONGC Unveils Plans to Establish Mini-LNG Plants Nationwide in India

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is ramping up efforts to increase domestic natural gas production by launching a network of mini-LNG plants across India. These facilities are set to be established in five key regions, including Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.

The mini-LNG plants will convert stranded natural gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG) by cooling it to -160°C. The LNG will then be transported via cryogenic trucks to nearby pipelines, where it will be re-gasified for local distribution.

This initiative will cater to the energy needs of power plants, fertilizer companies, and city gas distributors. ONGC’s strategy addresses the challenge of stranded gas from isolated wells not linked to pipeline infrastructure, while also emphasizing the company’s dedication to bolstering India’s energy security by increasing domestic production and reducing reliance on imports.
