Kongsberg Secures Contract for Two UT7623 SEV Design Vessels

Kongsberg Maritime has signed a contract to design two UT7623 SEV multipurpose subsea vessels for Olympic Group, headquartered in Fosnavåg, Norway.

The “SEV” designation stands for “Sustainable Energy Vessel,” reflecting their methanol-ready and battery-hybrid technology. These vessels mark the latest additions to Kongsberg Maritime’s subsea construction vessel portfolio, featuring a fully integrated package of advanced Kongsberg technology.

The vessels will be built at the CMHI shipyard in Shenzhen, China, with delivery expected in summer 2027. Designed for operations in both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors, they will incorporate cutting-edge technologies that significantly surpass the environmental targets outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Developed in close collaboration with Olympic, the UT7623 SEV vessels are engineered to be the most energy-efficient in their class. Their integrated technology package includes rim-drive electric azimuth propulsion, retractable azimuth bow thrusters, hybrid battery power, an integrated bridge system, automation and control systems, a dynamic positioning system, tank sounding, mooring winches, and an overhead ROV launch and recovery system (LARS).

Kongsberg Maritime’s role as an integrator ensures that these vessels are optimized for advanced offshore operations in demanding conditions, providing Olympic with superior performance and efficiency.

Olympic has been at the forefront of transitioning to environmentally and climate-friendly vessels. The UT7623 SEV vessels mark a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability.

“At Olympic, we have always been at the forefront of innovation, setting new standards for sustainable offshore operations,” said Olympic CEO and President Stig Remøy. “The UT7623 SEV vessels build on our extensive experience in renewable energy and oil and gas, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency. With Kongsberg Maritime’s cutting-edge technology, we are once again delivering vessels that lead the industry forward.”

“We are excited to deliver the UT7623 SEV vessels to Olympic,” said Per Kristian Furø, Sales Director at Kongsberg Maritime. “These vessels showcase the latest advancements in our ship design portfolio. They are methanol-ready dual-fuel and feature a fully electric propulsion system, setting new industry benchmarks for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This design exemplifies the qualities of next-generation vessels—offering innovative design, sustainability, operational efficiency, and economic impact. These vessels not only meet but exceed the demands of modern offshore operations while achieving extremely low fuel consumption.”
