Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, held a meeting with Norway’s Ambassador to Egypt, Hilde Klemetsdal, along with Terje Pilskog, CEO of the Norwegian company Scatec, and his delegation to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation in green energy.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Egypt’s oil and gas sector and Scatec, particularly regarding their ongoing joint venture to produce green ammonia in Damietta Governorate.
Minister Badawi emphasized the importance of the partnership with Norway, noting that the country’s advanced technology and expertise play a key role in driving forward significant strategic initiatives. He also highlighted that Egypt’s oil and gas companies have the experience and technical capabilities to deliver large-scale projects to international standards.
Ambassador Klemetsdal reiterated Norway’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Egypt, pointing out that both countries share strong political will and leadership support to push forward major development projects and create success stories in the field of renewable energy.
For his part, Pilskog provided an update on the progress of the green ammonia production project, which relies on green hydrogen as a feedstock. He also underlined Egypt’s strategic potential, citing its advantageous location and resources that position the country to become a key supplier of green hydrogen and ammonia to European markets.
