Coast Packing Co. has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art edible fats and oils refinery and packaging facility in Amarillo, Texas. This new development will allow the 103-year-old, fourth-generation company to increase its production of animal fat shortenings, such as lard and beef tallow, for home chefs and commercial channels across the U.S.
The facility is slated to open in the summer of 2026 and is expected to create up to 60 new jobs once fully operational. This new site will modernize Coast Packing’s operations, boosting efficiency while integrating environmentally responsible practices and utilizing technology to support continued sustainability.
The refinery building will span 10,000 square feet and consist of four levels, standing 80 feet high. It will house the equipment necessary for refining edible fats and oils. The complex will also feature a boiler house and a tank farm with 12 30-foot-tall carbon steel tanks designed to store raw materials, which will be delivered by rail via a new siding to be constructed. In addition, the packaging and warehouse building will cover 36,000 square feet and will house both packaging operations and office space.
