VA TECH WABAG (‘WABAG’), a leading Indian multinational specializing in water technology, has further strengthened its presence in the Middle East by securing a significant consortium contract worth USD 371 million (~INR 3,251 crores). The contract, awarded by Al Haer Environmental Services Company, covers the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (‘EPC’) of a 200 MLD Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (‘ISTP’), including connections to outfall delivery facilities.
The ISTP is being developed by a consortium led by Miahona Company, along with Marafiq and N.V. Besix S.A., for its off-taker, the Saudi Water Partnership Company (‘SWPC’), which serves as the principal off-taker for water and wastewater projects in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this year, WABAG secured an Engineering and Procurement (‘EP’) contract for a 20 MLD Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (‘IWWTP’) at the Ras Tanura Refinery Complex in Saudi Arabia, where Miahona Company is the project developer. WABAG’s strong track record with Miahona, along with its solid reputation spanning over four decades in the Middle East, played a crucial role in securing this repeat order.
For the Al Haer ISTP project, the EPC consortium comprises WABAG and Mutlaq Al-Ghowairi Contracting Company (‘MGC’). WABAG, as the technology partner and leader of the consortium, will design and build the 200 MLD sewage treatment plant, while MGC will be responsible for laying transmission pipelines and constructing reservoirs.
The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ initiative, which aims to enhance wastewater treatment services and improve residents’ quality of life.
Commenting on the contract win, Mr. Sivakumar V, Regional Head – Sales and Marketing at WABAG, stated, “We are extremely pleased to secure this 200 MLD Independent Sewage Treatment Plant order from our valued client. We extend our gratitude to Miahona Company, Marafiq, Besix Group, and SWPC for their trust in WABAG. This order reflects our technological expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions globally. It marks another milestone for us in Saudi Arabia and reinforces our leadership in the Middle East.”
