ADNOC Launches Upper Zakum Field Development Plan with ExxonMobil and INPEX
ADNOC has unveiled a major Upper Zakum Field Development strategy through new agreements with ExxonMobil and INPEX/JODCO, aimed at increasing production capacity in one of the world’s largest offshore oil fields. The plan will be executed in phases, modernizing the field’s infrastructure with AI-powered remote operations and clean energy integration.
The Upper Zakum field, located 84 km northwest of Abu Dhabi and discovered in 1963, is operated from artificial islands. ADNOC’s new approach will enhance sustainability by connecting operations to the UAE’s clean energy grid and expanding the use of artificial islands for drilling—reducing the project’s environmental footprint.
This landmark agreement supports a potential $60 billion in U.S. investment in UAE energy projects and is part of ADNOC’s broader push to develop advanced, low-emission oil and gas infrastructure. The project also aims to increase gas availability for domestic industries and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
ADNOC emphasized that its partnerships with ExxonMobil and INPEX/JODCO will leverage cutting-edge technology and decades of shared expertise to ensure long-term energy security and environmental performance.
