Over 100 local and international companies have expressed interest in bidding for projects to build 11 steam power plants in Iraq, according to the Iraqi Electricity Ministry. These plants would have a combined generating capacity of 15,000 megawatts (MW).
The Ministry has presented three investment models to the interested companies, who can bid for projects located in various parts of the country, according to a statement reported by Aliqtisad News and other local media outlets.
The proposed power plants are divided regionally as follows:

Southern Region (approximately 6,000 MW total):
- Amara Thermal Station – 1,400 MW
- Fao Thermal Station – 1,950 MW
- Nasiriyah Thermal Station (Expansion) – 1,260 MW
- Hartha Thermal Station (Expansion) – 1,400 MW

Central Euphrates Region (approximately 2,800 MW total):
- Najaf Thermal Station – 1,400 MW
- Shnafiya Thermal Station – 700 MW
- Musayyib Thermal Station (Expansion) – 700 MW

Central Region (approximately 3,220 MW total):
- Al-Yusufiyah Thermal Station – 1,820 MW
- Anbar Thermal Station – 1,400 MW

Northern Region (approximately 3,430 MW total):
- North Thermal Station (Expansion) – 700 MW
- Kask Thermal Station (New Construction) – 1,400 MW
- Samarra Thermal Station (Expansion) – 1,330 MW
