Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) has secured the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), under the Department of Atomic Energy. This contract, the highest value tender ever called by NPCIL, involves the construction of two 700 MW electrical reactors at Kaiga in Karnataka, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey towards clean and reliable nuclear energy.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, this prestigious project introduces the Quality cum Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) methodology, ensuring a meticulous evaluation of both technical expertise and cost-effectiveness. The tendering process began in May 2023, with the technical bid opening in October 2023. The highly competitive bidding process saw participation from industry leaders BHEL, L&T, and MEIL, with MEIL emerging as the lowest bidder by submitting a bid of Rs. 12,799.92 crores.
“This contract represents the most significant project for MEIL and our strategic entry into the nuclear energy sector,” said Ch Subbaiah, Director of MEIL. He emphasized that MEIL’s commitment to excellence and innovation was recognized through this landmark achievement. “The company is excited to contribute to India’s self-reliance in clean energy solutions,” he added.
