Italy’s San Donato Hospital Group (GSD) has announced plans to invest $100 million in the first phase of a new hospital project in Egypt, with future expansion across multiple governorates.
The investment was revealed during a meeting between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Kamel Ghribi, Chairman of GSD and GKSD Holding Group for Investment. In addition to the hospital, the initiative includes the establishment of an international university specializing in medical sciences.
GSD has already begun discussions with Egyptian authorities to acquire land or repurpose existing buildings for the planned university.
Prime Minister Madbouly welcomed the Italian group’s plans, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to attracting investments in healthcare and education, two key pillars of the country’s development strategy. He reaffirmed full government support and proposed Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital as a potential site for the university, instructing officials to facilitate a visit for GSD representatives.
Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar noted that GSD had been evaluating the Egyptian market for several years before deciding to move forward with a 140-bed hospital in New Cairo. The facility will feature state-of-the-art medical technologies, ensuring healthcare services that align with global standards.
Ghribi praised Egypt’s rapid development, particularly the New Administrative Capital, and highlighted San Donato Group’s expertise across more than 50 medical specialties.
He emphasized that Egypt has the potential to become a regional healthcare hub for Africa and the Middle East, positioning the country as a leader in advanced medical services and education.
