L&T has taken a major step in advancing its Gujarat green hydrogen projects by securing land in Kandla for developing green hydrogen and ammonia facilities. This move supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and strengthens the country’s shift toward clean and sustainable energy sources.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) continues to expand its clean energy footprint by acquiring land in Kandla, Gujarat for developing green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. This effort supports the Indian government’s green energy agenda, including the National Green Hydrogen Mission and pilot programs in clean transportation.
L&T’s Chairman & Managing Director, S N Subrahmanyan, told shareholders the company is making solid progress in emerging clean energy segments like green hydrogen and small modular reactors (SMRs). He emphasized L&T’s first-mover advantage in electrolyser manufacturing, a key component in green hydrogen production.
“A landmark development was the US Department of Energy’s approval for SMR technology transfer to India,” he said, noting that L&T is one of only three Indian companies eligible for the transfer. “This empowers us to lead the commercialization of nuclear energy in India.”
Subrahmanyan added that while current projects involve global partners, L&T’s long-term vision is to develop proprietary technology for clean energy solutions tailored to emerging markets. The company aims to build and operate cost-effective systems for hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol projects worldwide.
Earlier, L&T announced the formation of L&T Green Energy Kandla Pvt Ltd to oversee these green hydrogen developments. Green hydrogen, produced by splitting water using renewable electricity, is seen as a crucial part of decarbonizing heavy industry and transport.
With this move, L&T positions itself as a key player in the global transition to clean energy — starting with its Gujarat green hydrogen projects.
