Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, recently met with Terje Pilskog, CEO of Norway’s Scatec, to discuss Egypt’s ambitious plans for hydrogen development and green energy projects in collaboration with the company. The meeting, attended by Mohamed Amer, EVP of Scatec Egypt, focused on key initiatives, including a green ammonia production project in Port Said and the production of green methanol as a clean fuel for bunkering.
This discussion took place during Badawi’s participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Germany. He emphasized the Egyptian government’s commitment to eliminating obstacles in the hydrogen sector, aiming to leverage Egypt’s resources to establish the country as a prominent regional and global hub for hydrogen production.
Both parties recognized the critical importance of collaboration in advancing green hydrogen technologies and ensuring a safe energy transition. This aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to progressively embrace green and renewable energy sources, promoting sustainability and energy security.
