MUSCAT: Shuangliang Hydrogen, a subsidiary of China’s Shuangliang Group (SLG), has secured a contract to deliver green hydrogen production systems for ACME Group’s ambitious green ammonia project in Oman. Based in Shanghai, SLG confirmed on Friday that it will supply equipment capable of producing 300 tonnes of green ammonia per day at the Oman site.
“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in international clean energy partnerships,” SLG announced. “After extensive discussions and site visits, we have finalized the agreement for the green hydrogen production system, paving the way for a new chapter in tackling global climate challenges.”
For ACME Group, a leader in India’s renewable energy sector, the agreement underscores its commitment to Oman’s emerging green hydrogen market. ACME’s subsidiary, Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Company SAOC, is spearheading the development of a green ammonia facility with an initial production capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year at Duqm Special Economic Zone. This capacity is projected to scale up to 900,000 tonnes annually in subsequent phases.
Founded in 1982, Shuangliang Group ranks among China’s top 500 companies, with expertise spanning clean energy, environmental solutions, and water services. Under the contract, SLG will supply multiple hydrogen production systems, with all deliveries set for completion by the end of 2025.
ACME Oman has also made strides in advancing its Duqm project. Earlier this year, the company signed a long-term agreement with Norwegian crop nutrition giant Yara for the supply of 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, marking one of the first large-scale renewable ammonia supply deals worldwide.
Additionally, ACME is partnering with German firm Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies to explore the use of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology for transporting green hydrogen to Europe. LOHC technology enables the safe, bulk transportation of hydrogen using existing liquid fuel infrastructure, maintaining ambient pressure and temperature.
Through an MoU signed in April, ACME and Hydrogenious are working on large-scale hydrogen supply chains from Oman to Europe. By leveraging LOHC, green hydrogen could be distributed across European industrial hubs via rail, barge, tanker, and truck, supporting the decarbonization of key industries.
