Technology group Andritz has been selected by Rostock EnergyPort Cooperation (REPCO) to engineer a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany. REPCO, a joint venture of RWE Generation, EnBW Neue Energien, RheinEnergie, and Rostock Port, plans to make an investment decision by mid-2025. If approved, Andritz will move forward with the full-scale development of the facility.
Upon receiving the green light, Andritz will supply the hydrogen plant on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. The project will incorporate HydrogenPro’s pressurized alkaline technology for electrolysis, ensuring efficient hydrogen production. The scope of work includes the hydrogen production plant, offsite utilities, purification and compression systems, storage facilities, and a hydrogen filling station. Commissioning is set for 2027.
The REPCO plant is poised to be one of Germany’s first contributors to the national hydrogen core network and the future European hydrogen backbone. In addition to serving the broader network, it will support local industries and the mobility sector.
Michael Wurzel, Managing Director of REPCO, highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “The 100 MW electrolyzer is at the heart of the HyTechHafen Rostock initiative, which plays a crucial role in Europe’s energy transition. This project strengthens Rostock’s position as a key energy hub. Andritz has demonstrated a strong understanding of the project’s complexities, and we appreciate their flexible and collaborative approach.”
Sami Pelkonen, EVP of Green Hydrogen at Andritz, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The green transition is a collective effort. We are thrilled to see major German energy companies and local stakeholders leading the way. Being part of this initiative allows us to contribute to a more sustainable future.”
