ADNOC has unveiled multiple agreements with major US energy companies, unlocking $60 billion in US energy investments to accelerate the development of strategic UAE energy projects. These announcements were made during the UAE-US business dialogue attended by US President Donald J. Trump.
A key agreement involves a phased development of the Upper Zakum offshore field, in partnership with ExxonMobil and INPEX/JODCO, to expand production capacity using advanced, AI-enabled infrastructure and clean power sources. Upper Zakum, the world’s second-largest offshore oil field, lies 84 km northwest of Abu Dhabi and will utilize artificial islands for environmentally sensitive drilling.
In another major move, ADNOC signed a collaboration agreement with Occidental to explore raising output at the Shah Gas Field from 1.45 to 1.85 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd). Located 180 km southwest of Abu Dhabi, Shah is one of the largest sour gas developments globally.
Additionally, ADNOC’s global investment arm XRG aims to deepen its presence in the US. A new framework agreement was signed with Occidental’s 1PointFive to assess investing in a Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility in Texas, capable of removing 500,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
To further solidify US-UAE energy ties, EOG Resources received Abu Dhabi’s first unconventional oil exploration concession in Unconventional Onshore Block 3, covering over 3,600 square kilometers in the Al Dhafra region.
These initiatives are part of the UAE’s long-term strategy to attract global investment, advance low-carbon technologies, and foster sustainable energy growth. By 2035, the UAE’s investments in the US energy sector are expected to reach $440 billion as part of a broader $1.4 trillion global plan.
H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, ADNOC CEO and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, emphasized the growing UAE-US energy partnership:
“We are reinforcing our shared commitment to energy security and sustainability, with major US companies playing a key role in our ambitious future.”
