OCP S.A. (OCP), Morocco has issued a notice of award to Worley Chemetics for the construction of three greenfield sulphuric acid plants at OCP’s Mzinda Phosphate Hub (MPH) in Morocco. The notice of award is contingent upon the signing of the contract.
Under this contract, Worley Chemetics will provide proprietary sulphuric acid technology, process and equipment, as well as detailed engineering, procurement, and advisory site services. These services will be delivered through Worley Chemetics’ offices in Vancouver and its specialized fabrication facility near Toronto, Canada. The company classifies this contract as sustainable work per its sustainability-related work definition.
Worley Chemetics’ sulphuric acid technology offers several advantages over alternative technologies, including increased CO2 emission-free electrical power generation and lower stack emissions. The plants will use air cooling to conserve and reduce water usage, and the proprietary CES-ALPHA™ System will recover low-grade heat into steam for maximum heat recovery.
The OCP MPH project is part of the OCP Green Investment program, which aligns with Morocco’s energy transition strategy. Through this program, OCP aims to sustainably increase its fertilizer production capacity from 12 million tons to 20 million tons annually by 2027, utilizing clean energy and non-conventional water sources.
“We are pleased to continue to support OCP with our proprietary sulphuric acid technology, consistent with our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world,” said Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley.
