Wood Wins Pre-FEED Contract for Oman’s Blue Hydrogen Initiative

Shell has appointed Wood to provide pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) services for its groundbreaking ‘Blue Horizons’ project in Oman.

The initiative aims to produce low-carbon blue hydrogen and ammonia for both local and international markets, incorporating CO2 capture and storage from production. This project is set to be the first large-scale blue hydrogen endeavor in Oman.

Wood will apply its expertise in CO2 and blue hydrogen to design the comprehensive production facility, which includes marine facilities for ammonia storage, a 200-kilometer pipeline, and a CO2 injection system.

Giuseppe Zuccaro, President of Process & Chemicals at Wood, stated: “The Blue Horizons project represents a significant step towards Oman’s transition to zero-carbon fuels. We are excited to collaborate with Shell on this pre-FEED package, utilizing our local and global expertise to advance this pioneering project.”

Wood will mobilize teams from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, India, and Oman to execute this contract, with the work expected to be completed by 2025.
