Verde Clean Fuels, Inc., a renewable energy company specializing in converting syngas from various feedstocks into gasoline, has announced the selection of Chemex Global, LLC as the contractor for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase of its joint development agreement with Cottonmouth Ventures, LLC, a subsidiary of Diamondback Energy. This agreement focuses on developing, constructing, and operating a natural gas-to-gasoline facility in the Permian Basin.
This selection marks the initial step towards the joint development agreement’s goal of reaching final definitive documents and making a final investment decision. The facility, to be located in Martin County, Texas, is expected to be a commercial-scale version of Verde’s demonstration plant in Hillsborough, New Jersey, utilizing the company’s proprietary STG+® technology to produce approximately 2,900 barrels per day of commodity-grade gasoline. FEED work is set to begin immediately, with completion expected in early 2025. Following the FEED phase and the final investment decision, engineering, procurement, and construction will commence, aiming for project completion in 2027.
“This proposed project has the potential to mitigate the flaring of up to 34 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, serving as a model for additional natural gas-to-gasoline projects in the Permian Basin and other pipeline-constrained basins in the U.S., as well as addressing flared or stranded natural gas opportunities internationally,” said Ernie Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Verde. “We’re excited to advance this project with a highly experienced partner like Chemex.”
“Chemex Global is honored to be selected as the FEED contractor for this project. We look forward to collaborating with Verde to implement its proprietary STG+ technology on a commercial scale,” said Matt Rodgers, Chief Commercial Officer of Chemex. “Working with an innovative company like Verde allows us to apply our multidisciplinary modular project execution expertise to this significant opportunity.”
