Thermax Wins Rs. 516 Crore Contract for 600 MW Power Project in Botswana

Thermax Limited has secured a significant order worth ₹516 crore for the supply of two 550 TPH Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) boilers in Botswana. This contract marks the second phase of a 600 MW energy project led by Jindal Energy Botswana Pty Ltd, aimed at bolstering the region’s power supply to the national utility grid and enhancing energy security in Southern Africa.

The order, secured through Thermax’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions Limited (TBWES), involves the design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and supply of the CFBC boilers, alongside supervision of erection, commissioning, and performance testing. With a project completion timeline of 25.5 months, TBWES will oversee all aspects, ensuring that the boilers meet high standards of efficiency and environmental performance.

Having already played a key role in the first phase of this energy project, this repeat order reflects Jindal Energy Botswana’s confidence in Thermax’s technology and execution capabilities. The project further strengthens Thermax’s standing as a leading energy solutions provider in the global energy sector, especially in Southern Africa.

Ashish Bhandari, Managing Director and CEO of Thermax, commented, “This repeat order underscores the trust our client has placed in our technological expertise and project execution capabilities. We are proud to be part of Botswana’s growing energy infrastructure and are committed to setting new benchmarks in efficiency and sustainability for power generation projects.”

The project is aligned with Thermax’s mission to deliver world-class energy solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability. CFBC technology is known for its ability to efficiently combust various solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels, while significantly reducing carbon emissions. The technology enhances waste heat recovery, making it both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

CFBC boilers are particularly valued for their low emissions of harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide, providing a sustainable alternative to conventional power generation methods. This makes CFBC boilers an ideal choice for large-scale energy projects like this one, which prioritize environmental responsibility alongside operational efficiency.

Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions (TBWES) specializes in delivering a wide range of energy solutions, from steam generation for power and industrial processes to waste heat recovery from turbines and engines. The company also provides modernizations and renovation services for older equipment, contributing to extended operational life and improved efficiency.

This order is not only a testament to Thermax’s growing influence in the energy sector but also highlights the company’s commitment to sustainable power generation. As Southern Africa’s energy landscape continues to develop, Thermax’s role in shaping the future of power generation in the region will be instrumental.
