Texas Instruments (TI) has announced a landmark investment exceeding $60 billion to expand its semiconductor manufacturing capacity across seven fabs in Texas and Utah. This initiative is expected to create and support more than 60,000 jobs nationwide and significantly bolster U.S. domestic chip production.
The expansion will strengthen TI’s capabilities in producing analog and embedded processing chips, essential for a wide range of electronic systems—from vehicles and smartphones to data centers, satellites, and medical devices.
Multi-Site Expansion Strategy
TI’s investment includes multiple mega-sites across two states:
-
Sherman, Texas: Construction of new fabs SM1 and SM2 is underway, with future plans for SM3 and SM4 to meet rising demand.
-
Richardson, Texas: Continued ramp-up of RFAB2, further increasing production capacity.
-
Lehi, Utah: Ongoing ramp-up and construction at LFAB1 and LFAB2.
All sites will produce 300mm wafers at scale, offering improved cost-efficiency and volume production of critical components for advanced technologies.
Industry and Government Endorsements
In a statement, Haviv Ilan, President and CEO of Texas Instruments, said:
“TI is building dependable, low-cost 300mm capacity at scale to deliver the analog and embedded processing chips that are vital for nearly every type of electronic system. Leading U.S. companies such as Apple, Ford, Medtronic, NVIDIA, and SpaceX rely on TI’s world-class technology and manufacturing expertise, and we are honored to work alongside them and the U.S. government to unleash what’s next in American innovation.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick added:
“For nearly a century, Texas Instruments has been a bedrock American company driving innovation in technology and manufacturing. President Trump has made it a priority to increase semiconductor manufacturing in America—including these foundational semiconductors that go into the electronics people use every day. Our partnership with TI will support U.S. chip manufacturing for decades to come.”
