Tecnimont and Baker Hughes awarded a $2.3 billion EPC contract from Sonatrach

Today, the consortium formed by Tecnimont (Integrated E&C Solutions) and Baker Hughes was awarded an EPC contract by Sonatrach for the construction of three compressor stations , and for the upgrading of the gas collection system, in the gas field of Hassi R’mel , 550 km south of Algiers.

It is the largest deposit in the country as well as one of the largest in the world.

The overall value of the contract is approximately USD 2.3 billion , of which Tecnimont is responsible for USD 1.7 billion .

Specifically, the project involves the construction of three gas compression stations, including turbo compressors capable of compressing approximately 188 million cubic meters of natural gas per day .

The plan also includes the project to strengthen the collection system which has more than 300 km of pipelines .

Completion of the works is expected within 39 months from the date of entry into force of the contract.

The compressor stations, together with the collection system, will maintain the pressure of the gas along the pipelines , allowing it to continue to flow efficiently and ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted supply to Italy and, consequently, the whole of Europe .

The contract confirms MAIRE’s strategic role as a reference player for the engineering of strategic energy projects and will significantly contribute to the optimization of gas supply from Algeria, thus diversifying the energy resources of Italy and Europe.

Comments

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of the MAIRE group , explained: “ After the award of the alkylbenzene plant in the Skikda industrial area last March, SONATRACH once again relies on the executive capabilities of our Group. The development of this important new project strengthens our commercial relations with SONATRACH and above all the bilateral relations between Italy and Algeria”.

“ This award, in fact, represents a strong recognition for the entire Italian value chain, having partners in the Baker Hughes consortium and, more generally, it has an important economic impact on our country ”.
