Technip Energies Wins Engineering Role on Thailand Offshore CCS Project

Paris-based Technip Energies has secured the detailed engineering contract for PTTEP’s Arthit carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the Gulf of Thailand, strengthening its position in offshore low-carbon developments.

Thailand’s national upstream company PTTEP took final investment decision (FID) on the $320 million offshore CCS project in September. The Arthit development is designed to serve as a pilot project to advance CCS expertise and deployment in the country.

Under the latest award, Technip Energies will deliver detailed engineering for new CCS processing units and CO₂ injection facilities, alongside brownfield modifications to the existing Arthit central processing platform. The contract was awarded by Thoresen Jutal Offshore Engineering Heavy Industries Limited (Thailand).

The engineering scope builds on Technip Energies’ earlier involvement in the project, having successfully completed the pre-FEED and FEED phases between 2022 and 2023.

Supporting Thailand’s Net-Zero Ambitions

PTTEP is positioning the Arthit CCS development as a cornerstone for Thailand’s emerging CCS value chain. The project is recognised under the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Action Plan on Mitigation 2021–2030, aligning with national policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Once operational, the project will leverage existing offshore infrastructure at the Arthit gas field, while adding new CCS facilities as required. Carbon storage operations are expected to start in 2028, with capacity ramping up gradually to around 1 million tonnes per year of CO₂.

PTTEP chief executive Montri Rawanchaikul has previously described the Arthit project as a foundation for broader CCS deployment, including the planned Eastern CCS Hub in the northern Gulf of Thailand, which could play a material role in supporting the country’s long-term net-zero targets.

Technip Energies Expands Low-Carbon Portfolio

Mario Tommaselli, senior vice president for gas and low-carbon energies at Technip Energies, said the award reflects the company’s long-standing relationship with PTTEP and its track record in CCS engineering.

The detailed engineering contract, whose value was not disclosed, was booked in the company’s technology, products and services segment during the third quarter.
