Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, has indicated that there is a “high possibility” Italy’s Eni will make a final investment decision (FID) on its second floating LNG production project in Mozambique within 2024. This anticipated decision is part of Eni’s ongoing efforts to expand its LNG production capabilities and capitalize on the significant potential of Mozambique’s natural gas reserves.
The second floating LNG project, known as Coral Norte, represents a crucial development in the broader strategy to increase global LNG supply. Coral Norte follows the successful launch of the Coral South FLNG project, which has already established a strong presence in the market. Technip Energies, known for its expertise in LNG engineering and project execution, is closely involved in the Coral Norte project and is poised to secure the award for this venture.
Pieton highlighted that the Coral Norte project would benefit from Mozambique’s vast and untapped natural gas resources, which are critical for meeting the growing global demand for cleaner energy sources. The project’s development would involve deploying state-of-the-art floating LNG technology to maximize production efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Technip Energies, with its extensive experience in floating LNG projects, is well-positioned to deliver on the technical and operational demands of Coral Norte. The company’s involvement underscores its commitment to advancing LNG technology and supporting the global transition towards more sustainable energy solutions.
As Eni prepares to make its FID decision, the industry is closely watching the project’s progress. The successful approval and execution of Coral Norte would not only bolster Mozambique’s role in the global energy market but also solidify Technip Energies’ position as a leading player in the LNG sector.
