TAQA Water Solutions to Lead Major Water Project in Uzbekistan

ABU DHABITAQA Water Solutions has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the New Tashkent City Directorate to explore the development of a 65km raw water transmission pipeline and an advanced water treatment plant in New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan.

This agreement marks TAQA Water Solutions’ second major water infrastructure project in Uzbekistan, reinforcing the company’s commitment to building sustainable, modern infrastructure for New Tashkent City. Once complete, the project will provide clean, reliable water to serve around 2 million people, supporting the city’s vision for a sustainable future.

Under the terms of the agreement, TAQA Water Solutions will have an exclusivity period to develop a detailed proposal, including technical and financial assessments to ensure the project’s feasibility and create a sustainable, bankable solution.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, and Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate.

Once finalized, the new infrastructure will deliver sustainable drinking water sourced from the Charvak Mountain Reservoir. The state-of-the-art water treatment plant will utilize advanced technologies to ensure that water quality meets international standards.

The 65km pipeline will transport 500,000 cubic meters of water daily, while producing 20 megawatts of hydro-power to ensure a consistent, reliable water supply. This will support the ongoing growth of New Tashkent City by addressing its current and future water needs.

Al Shamsi shared his enthusiasm: “Following our success in developing Tashkent’s largest wastewater treatment plant last year, we are excited to begin comprehensive evaluations for this new project, which will set new benchmarks in sustainable resource management and benefit the New Tashkent community for years to come.”

Abbaskhanov added: “This project will deliver a reliable and state-of-the-art water supply to the people of New Tashkent, drawing on proven strengths in the UAE. I am confident that our collaboration over the past months has laid the foundation for success.”

Valued at AED 2 billion, the project is an investment in New Tashkent’s bright future and rapid development. It aims to secure the city’s long-term water supply, stimulate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for its residents.

This initiative also strengthens the growing partnership between the UAE and Uzbekistan, demonstrating their shared commitment to sustainable development and economic progress.
