SWA and NWC Join Forces to Develop 16 Water Plants in Saudi Arabia’s Central Cluster

The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) and the National Water Company (NWC) have signed an agreement for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of 16 water purification plants to treat well water across the governorates, towns, and villages of the Central Cluster. The signing ceremony was attended by Engineer Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdul Karim, SWA President, and Dr. Fuad bin Ahmed Alshikhmubarak, NWC CEO.

Signed by Engineer Tariq bin Ghassan Al-Ghaffari, SWA’s Vice President for Water Research and Promising Technologies, and Engineer Mansour bin Mohammed Abu Thunain, NWC’s Executive Vice President for Projects, the agreement aims to enhance water security, provide new drinking water sources, and develop high-efficiency, environmentally friendly groundwater desalination technologies. It will support the increasing demand in the Central Cluster with decentralized production capacities exceeding 18,000 cubic meters per day. Additionally, the initiative seeks to maximize SWA’s engineering and technical expertise while integrating cutting-edge technologies in collaboration with global equipment manufacturers to achieve optimal operational efficiency and sustainability.

Leveraging SWA’s extensive experience in water plant design and construction, the project is part of broader efforts to develop sustainable water management solutions. The new facilities will be designed with varied production capacities to deliver high-quality drinking water to more than 80,000 residents in the region.

The project also includes the establishment of integrated water treatment and distribution infrastructure to ensure reliable and efficient supply, particularly in areas facing water scarcity. It represents a significant step toward improving basic services, strengthening water infrastructure sustainability, and supporting the Kingdom’s strategic objectives for integrated water resource management. By adopting international best practices and innovative solutions, SWA reaffirms its commitment to enhancing water security and sector efficiency in Saudi Arabia.
