Splitwaters agrees to support Akna Energy’s large-scale hydrogen production project

Splitwaters has agreed to provide EPC services for Akna Energy’s proposed 20MW green hydrogen plant in Louisiana, the US.

Expected to produce more than three million kilogrammes of green hydrogen per year, the facility is anticipated to be built and put into operation by late 2025.

H2 View understands Splitwaters will supply the electrolysers and be responsible for the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) of the plant, with Zentech Inc. acting as its engineering partner.

Akna Energy’s first project will be completed within budget and in a record timeline, according to its CEO, Paul Hudson, signifying the first plant of a network the company is planning to establish across the US.

He explained, “Splitwaters was selected for their rich expertise in green hydrogen generation, their modular approach, compact design, lower initial capex and speed of delivery. The engineering designs and equipment fabrication for this plant are well underway.”

Deepak Bawa, CEO of Splitwaters, added, “We plan to build multiple green hydrogen plants of varying capacities based on clients’ requirements around the globe.”

Zentech’s CEO, Ramesh Maini, said, “Our strategic partnership with Splitwaters will enable the capture of our rich four-plus decades of innovative engineering capabilities much needed for the green hydrogen plants.”

Last year, Monarch Energy announced it was exploring plans to build a $426m hydrogen production facility in Louisiana, capable of producing 120 tonnes of hydrogen per day.
