SLB Capturi and Aker Solutions Secure Contract for Hafslund Celsio Carbon Capture Project

SLB Capturi, in collaboration with Aker Solutions, has secured an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) contract from Hafslund Celsio AS to deliver a carbon capture solution at its waste-to-energy facility in Klemetsrud, Oslo. As Norway’s largest district heating supplier and operator of the country’s largest waste-to-energy plant, Hafslund Celsio plays a pivotal role in the nation’s clean energy transition. This project is part of Longship, the Norwegian government’s full value-chain carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative.

Under this contract, SLB Capturi and Aker Solutions will deliver a carbon capture plant, liquefaction system, temporary storage, and a loading facility at the waste incineration site. Additionally, an intermediate CO₂ storage and ship loading system will be constructed at Oslo Harbor, facilitating the transport of captured CO₂ to the Northern Lights permanent storage facility on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Once operational, the plant is expected to capture 350,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually.

This EPCIC award follows a cost-reduction phase that identified efficiencies, including layout optimization. The project will utilize SLB Capturi’s modular Just Catch™ 400 unit, a space-efficient design that reduces on-site footprint, installation, and outfitting work—making it a viable, cost-effective solution.

Industry Leaders Speak on the Project

Egil Fagerland, CEO of SLB Capturi, emphasized the importance of modularization in carbon capture:

“Standardization and modularization play a key role in shifting the economics of carbon capture projects. We are extremely proud of our collaboration with Hafslund Celsio and Aker Solutions to align our Just Catch™ plant design with the project’s techno-economic requirements. This flagship project will serve as a blueprint for industrial decarbonization in Norway and beyond.”

Hafslund Celsio’s project is the second Longship carbon capture facility, following SLB Capturi and Aker Solutions’ ongoing work at Heidelberg Materials’ cement plant in Brevik.

Kjetel Digre, CEO of Aker Solutions, highlighted the project’s significance:

“Today marks a major milestone for Aker Solutions and the CCS industry in Norway. This project is a testament to public-private collaboration in building a full-scale carbon capture and storage value chain. It will significantly reduce emissions while creating long-term value for industry and society.”

Martin S. Lundby, CEO of Hafslund Celsio, expressed confidence in the project’s execution:

“We are pleased to collaborate with Aker Solutions and SLB Capturi on this critical industrial project. Their expertise in large-scale CCS developments, both in Norway and globally, gives us confidence in delivering a high-quality carbon capture solution. We expect the plant to be operational by Q3 2029.”
