Siemens to Modernize Dibis and Al-Musayyib Plants

Iraq has taken a major step toward modernizing its energy infrastructure by signing new agreements with Siemens Energy to upgrade the Dibis Gas Power Plant and the Al-Musayyib Thermal Power Plant.

The agreements, signed under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, represent the third phase of Iraq’s strategic energy partnership with Germany.

The signing ceremony was attended by Iraq’s Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadhil, German Ambassador Christiane Hohmann, and Siemens Energy President and CEO Christian Bruch.

The contracts cover comprehensive maintenance of the Dibis Gas Power Plant, which operates two 340-megawatt units, and a five-year service agreement for the Al-Musayyib Thermal Power Plant. The latter includes maintenance of its 750-megawatt units, the addition of 150 megawatts, and upgrades to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations.

These deals are part of Iraq’s broader initiative to add 14,000 megawatts to the national grid, significantly boosting generation capacity and enhancing energy services across the country.

With this agreement, Iraq underscores its commitment to strengthening the reliability and sustainability of its power sector through international collaboration.
