Preparatory works are starting this month for the Severn Trent water pipeline project, a £80 million initiative aimed at strengthening Nottinghamshire’s water supply.
Spanning 43 kilometres, the new pipeline will transfer water from the Derwent Valley Aqueduct near Hathersage to the Lowtown booster station in Worksop. From there, water will be distributed across the local network.
Part of Severn Trent’s broader efforts to future-proof water infrastructure, the project addresses the increasing challenges posed by climate change and population growth.
Construction will be delivered in phases, with the first stretch—from Worksop to Renishaw—slated to begin in January 2026. In the meantime, teams will carry out early ground investigations to prepare for full-scale works.
Community engagement is also a key priority. Local residents can expect drop-in sessions and updates throughout the process, ensuring transparency and minimizing disruption.
“This investment will help ensure a reliable water supply for years to come,” said Paul Spiby, Delivery Business Lead at Severn Trent. “We’ll keep communities informed as we finalize the route and move forward.”
