Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) is set to award two major contracts in the water and sewerage sectors in the first and second quarters of 2025, furthering the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its water infrastructure.
Water Purification Plant Contracts Expected in Q2 2025
The NWC is expected to finalize the operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for three key water purification plants and associated water pipelines by the second quarter of 2025, according to Zawya.
This contract will cover the O&M of the Labkha and Hawiyat purification plants in Al-Quwayiyah, which together have a combined capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day (m³/day), as well as the Moral Guidance Institute purification plant in Al-Muzahmiyah, with a capacity of 1,500 m³/day.
A source familiar with the project disclosed to Zawya that the contract is expected to be awarded in Q2 2025, with the completion date set for May 2028. However, the estimated cost of the project remains undisclosed. The tender for this contract was issued on 19 February 2025, with bids due by 2 March 2025.
Sewerage Infrastructure Project to Be Awarded in Q1 2025
In addition, NWC has announced plans to extend the main sewerage line in Al Jaradiyah, Riyadh, through an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. This project, slated for award in the first quarter of 2025, aims to improve the sewerage infrastructure in the area.
The tender for this project was issued on 4 January 2025, with the bid submission deadline set for 27 February 2025. The expected completion date for the project is December 2026. The scope of work involves the construction of a 1,350-meter-long main sewer line, featuring a 1,200-mm diameter pipeline made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), and the installation of 16 manholes, each measuring 2.5 x 2.5 meters.
