SAMSUNG E&A Secures EPC Contract for UAE-Based Polylactic Acid (PLA) Plant

Emirates Biotech has officially chosen SAMSUNG E&A as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for its upcoming Polylactic Acid (PLA) production facility in the United Arab Emirates.

This key initiative—named the Falcon PLA Project—represents a major step forward in Emirates Biotech’s mission to drive innovation in sustainable materials. Once operational, the plant will manufacture PLA, a biodegradable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastics, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible industrial growth.

SAMSUNG E&A, known for its excellence in executing large-scale, technologically advanced projects, has been selected as the exclusive EPC partner. The company will manage all aspects of the Falcon PLA project—from detailed engineering and procurement to full-scale construction—ensuring the plant is delivered on time and within budget. The pre-EPC agreement, marking the official start of the collaboration, was signed on April 14, 2025, at Emirates Biotech’s UAE headquarters.

The PLA plant will incorporate technology and specialized equipment from Sulzer, the selected technology provider. SAMSUNG E&A will be responsible for seamlessly integrating Sulzer’s systems into the facility’s overall design and operations.

Located in the KEZAD free zone in Abu Dhabi, the plant is scheduled to begin operations by early 2028. The site offers strategic logistical advantages, including access to the deep-sea Khalifa Port and world-class infrastructure.

Through this project, Emirates Biotech aims to help global industries transition from fossil-based plastics to renewable, high-performance biodegradable solutions—paving the way for a more sustainable future.
