A consortium comprising Saipem Contracting Netherlands, BOS Shelf, and BOS Shelf International FZCO has signed a framework agreement with BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) for offshore operations in the Caspian Sea. The consortium will manage the SCV Khankendi vessel, owned by the Shah Deniz consortium, and designed for subsea construction.
Saipem will operate the vessel and provide the crew for marine activities related to the Shah Deniz and Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields, two of the world’s largest gas-condensate fields, with Shah Deniz being the largest gas discovery ever made by the UK oil major.
The consortium’s responsibilities include engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of subsea infrastructures, as well as life-of-field services. The estimated value of the services is around $300 million, with Saipem’s share being $250 million.
The agreement is set for an initial duration of three years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. Saipem has been managing the operational activities of the SCV Khankendi for the Shah Deniz field since 2016 under a previous agreement with BP.
Earlier this year, Saipem also secured a contract with Azule Energy, a joint venture between Eni and BP, worth approximately $850 million for delivering subsea equipment for a field offshore Angola.
