RCL Orders Two 14,000 TEU Boxships from HD Hyundai

Thailand’s Regional Container Lines (RCL) has placed an order for two 14,000 TEU containerships with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, marking the first collaboration between the two companies.

The contract, valued at KRW 435.3 billion ($299 million), schedules delivery of the vessels by October 2028.

The order represents a significant expansion for RCL, which has historically focused on the intra-Asia market and smaller vessel classes, signaling its ambition to enter the mainline trades.

For HD Hyundai Heavy, the deal contributes to a standout year, with the Korean shipyard now securing 61 boxship orders in 2025 — more than double the 28 orders booked in 2024.
