Pyrum Innovations Obtains Permit for Groundbreaking Tire Recycling Facility in Greece

Pyrum Innovations AG and its Greek partner, Thermo Lysi SA, have received full regulatory approval for the construction of a new pyrolysis-based tire recycling plant in Greece. With all necessary permits granted, the project is now considered “fully approved,” paving the way for the next phase of development. The final investment decision is expected in the first half of 2025, with the ordering of long-lead components planned for Q2 and groundbreaking scheduled for summer 2025.

The plant, to be located in Livanates, approximately 140 km north of Athens, will process 20,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires annually—nearly half of Greece’s total tire waste. Pyrum Innovations AG plans to acquire a 15% equity stake in the project, marking the company’s first international expansion.

CEO Pascal Klein expressed enthusiasm for the milestone, stating, “Now that all necessary permits have been granted, we can move forward with the next planning phase. This project brings our technology beyond national borders for the first time, allowing us to make a significant contribution to tire recycling in Greece.”

Pyrum’s patented thermolysis technology enables the sustainable recycling of used tires and plastics, producing thermolysis oil, gas, and recovered carbon black (rCB) while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions compared to traditional recycling methods. The company has been recognized for its innovations, receiving REACH registration from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and ISCC PLUS certification for its sustainable raw materials.

With this expansion, Pyrum Innovations continues to strengthen its leadership in circular economy solutions for end-of-life tire recycling.
