UK-based owner Purus Marine is expanding its fleet of medium-sized gas carriers to six with the order of two additional 45,000 cubic meter vessels from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
In May of last year, Purus secured an order for four newbuilds at the South Korean shipyard, with delivery scheduled for 2025 and 2026, and options for two additional ships. These options have now been exercised, bringing the total to six vessels.
The initial order was priced at $68.69 million per unit, while the latest two vessels are priced at approximately $74.5 million each. Clarksons estimates that these ships will be delivered in the first half of 2027.
Established in 2020 and led by Julian Proctor, Purus Marine has been active in over 60 transactions across various shipping sectors, including ammonia, LNG, offshore wind, carbon capture, scrubber-fitted containerships, and electric ferries. Earlier this year, the company also expanded its orderbook for very large ethane carriers at Hyundai Heavy Industries, bringing the total to three vessels.
