Primetals will act as the technology partner for Xuân Thiện’s new steel project, providing advanced process solutions, engineering expertise, and key plant components.
The strategic collaboration forms a central pillar of the “green steel ecosystem” being developed by Xuân Thiện. The project will integrate electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with ironmaking facilities powered by cleaner energy sources, including natural gas in the initial phase and green hydrogen over the longer term.
This approach is designed to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, align Vietnam’s steel industry with global decarbonisation and sustainability trends, and ensure compliance with the increasingly stringent standards of international markets.
The new production facilities will also strengthen Vietnam’s self-sufficiency in supplying raw materials for industries that require high-strength steel and large dimensions, such as shipbuilding.
The first production complex will feature an EAF Ultimate, offering high flexibility in charging materials, short tap-to-tap times, and reduced energy and raw material consumption. It will be supported by a twin ladle furnace, a twin vacuum degassing plant, a continuous slab caster, and a plate Steckel mill.
A second production line will focus on the manufacture of endless hot-rolled coils. This line will include two EAF Ultimates, two twin ladle furnaces, two twin vacuum degassing plants, and Primetals’ advanced Arvedi ESP technology, enabling the efficient production of ultra-thin, high-quality steel products.
