PowerChina Secures EPC Contract for 500MW Peak Power Plant in Qatar

PowerChina has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) to develop a 500MW single-cycle peak generation gas power plant. The project is set to be built in the Ras Abu Fontas Industrial Zone, located south of Doha.

Designed to address Qatar’s rising electricity demand during peak summer months, the project was fast-tracked by QEWC. It includes the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of two advanced F-class gas turbine generator units along with supporting auxiliary systems. The facility is expected to be completed and operational by January 2027.

This initiative aligns with Qatar’s 2030 Economic Development Vision and PowerChina’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, reinforcing the country’s transition towards a more efficient energy mix. The contract further strengthens PowerChina’s presence in the Middle East’s energy sector, showcasing its expertise in power infrastructure and expanding its footprint in the region’s competitive market.
