PGE ordered a key part for a new gas and steam unit

Rybnik 2050, a subsidiary of PGE, signed a contract with SPIE Elbud Gdańsk for the construction of a power output system from the gas and steam unit under construction in Rybnik. The investment cost is PLN 29.5 million.

PGE announced that a company from the group has contracted a contractor for one of the key projects necessary to launch the gas and steam unit under construction in Rybnik, namely the power output system that will connect the newly built unit to the National Power System (NPS) and provide it with reserve power supply.  The contract was concluded between Rybnik 2050, a subsidiary of PGE, and SPIE Elbud Gdańsk, selected in the tender procedure. The investment cost is PLN 29.5 million The contract in question, as reported by PGE, includes, among others: execution of designs and construction of two concurrent power lines 400kV and 110kV, each approximately 2.4 km long.  The 400kV line will be used to transfer power from the new power unit and connect it to the Wielopole SE station, which is the connection point of the unit to the National Power System. The 110kV line will constitute a reserve power supply for the unit. PGE also announced that, in accordance with the assumptions of the tender documentation, the route of the new power lines will be run almost entirely within the area of the currently existing lines, decommissioned units of the Rybnik Power Plant  The 882 MW gas and steam unit built by PGE in Rybnik is the largest investment of this type in Poland. It will replace four decommissioned coal units with a total capacity of 900 MW at the existing Rybnik Power Plant.

In February 2023, PGE signed a contract worth nearly PLN 4 billion net with a consortium consisting of Polimex Mostostal and Siemens Energy for the construction and servicing of the gas and steam unit in question.

The new gas and steam unit in Rybnik is planned to be commissioned in December 2026, as PGE announced in January 2024.
