Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has confirmed plans to proceed with upstream and downstream tenders in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to expanding operations.
During a press conference, Renata Baruzzi, the company’s Director of Engineering, Technology, and Innovation, announced that tenders for the Albacora and Barracuda/Caratinga FPSOs would be relaunched in the second half of the year. Both projects will follow a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, where the selected firm will construct and operate the FPSOs for six years.
Baruzzi also provided updates on other key projects, stating that Petrobras is in the process of contracting the P-86 and SEAP FPSOs. Additionally, the Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO is set to arrive in Brazil next week, with first oil expected later this year.
Beyond offshore developments, Petrobras is advancing its downstream projects. The company plans to open commercial bids for the resumption of construction at the UFN III fertilizer plant in Mato Grosso do Sul. Operations at the Araucária Nitrogenados (Ansa) fertilizer plant in Paraná are scheduled to restart in May.
“We have several ongoing discussions with potential partners in the fertilizer sector, including Unigel,” said William França, Petrobras’ Director of Industrial Processes and Products.
Unigel, which leased Petrobras’ fertilizer plants in Bahia and Sergipe for 10 years in 2019, is currently facing financial challenges. Meanwhile, Petrobras is also conducting tenders for the second refining train of the RNEST refinery in Pernambuco, as well as new diesel and lubricant plants within the Boaventura energy complex in Rio de Janeiro.
With these strategic investments, Petrobras continues to strengthen its position across the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors, aligning with its long-term growth objectives.
