Fuel supplier Peninsula has been linked to two new LNG bunker vessels being built in South Korea. Shipbuilding industry sources suggest that the Gibraltar-based tanker and bunker group is behind an order for 18,000 cubic meter vessels, which was announced at HD Hyundai Mipo on Thursday.
The newbuilds, estimated at around $93 million each, are expected to be delivered by November 2027. Peninsula launched its LNG bunkering business in 2021, marking its first newbuilding project through a joint venture with Scale Gas, a subsidiary of the Spanish utility Enagás.
Peninsula’s first LNG bunker vessel, the 12,500 cubic meter Levante LNG, was also built by HD Hyundai Mipo and delivered in July 2023. Currently under a seven-year charter to Peninsula, the ship has been servicing the Strait of Gibraltar and various ports in the Western Mediterranean.
