Oman is set to establish the world’s first commercial-scale liquid hydrogen corridor, creating a direct export link between the Sultanate and key European destinations—the Netherlands and Germany.
This ambitious initiative will be spearheaded by Hydrom, Oman’s state-backed green hydrogen developer. Hydrom will lead upstream hydrogen production efforts aligned with the country’s sustainability targets and ensure seamless integration into Oman’s broader hydrogen infrastructure and policy framework, according to a statement from OQ, the national energy company.
OQ will be responsible for developing the hydrogen production facility, along with storage and export terminals, significantly strengthening the project’s supply chain capacity.
The corridor will enable Oman to export renewable, non-biological origin-compliant liquid hydrogen from the Port of Duqm to the Port of Amsterdam and onward to strategic industrial hubs across Germany.
Transport will be managed by UAE-based ECOLOG, which will deploy advanced zero boil-off vessels to minimize hydrogen loss during transit and improve overall efficiency.
In Europe, the project will rely on re-gasification terminals at the Port of Amsterdam to receive shipments. From there, the hydrogen will be distributed to industrial users across the Netherlands and Germany through existing gas pipelines, rail links, and the Dutch canal system.
To support this initiative, Oman has already allocated large-scale green hydrogen projects to 22 international consortiums, who are now actively developing sites in the Duqm and Dhofar regions.
Additionally, Hydrom is preparing to launch its third land auction round later this month, this time focused on medium-sized project opportunities, further accelerating the country’s hydrogen development strategy.
