Nama Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (PWP), Oman has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development of two Independent Power Projects (IPPs) on a build, own, and operate basis, connected to the Main Interconnected System (MIS) in the Sultanate of Oman.
With a combined net capacity of 2,400 MW under reference site conditions, the projects are expected to be commissioned and operational by April 1, 2029. Additionally, an early generation capacity of 1,700 MW is planned for availability by April 1, 2028.
The projects will encompass the development, financing, design, engineering, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants. These plants will generate electricity for transmission and distribution within the MIS grid.
PWP intends to procure these projects using a model similar to its existing IPPs. The projects will be funded by the private sector and structured with risk allocation and contractual frameworks aligned with previous IPPs successfully developed in Oman.
The project agreements—covering power purchase, usufruct rights, natural gas supply, gas connection, electrical connection, and electricity supply—will closely follow the templates of prior IPPs that have been successfully implemented and financed in the country.
