The Oman biogas project, a joint initiative by be’ah and OQ Trading, is set to transform organic waste into clean energy. By extracting biomethane and bio-CO₂ from landfill sites, the project supports the Sultanate’s low-carbon energy ambitions and aligns with Oman Vision 2040.
Oman is taking a major step toward clean energy with a new biogas initiative. Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) and OQ Trading have signed an agreement to develop a national biogas project that will convert organic waste into biomethane and bio-CO₂.
The project aims to tap into around 20 million cubic metres of biogas from landfill sites managed by be’ah. This gas, made up of approximately 40% renewable biomethane and 60% bio-carbon dioxide, will be used in sustainable industrial applications, supporting Oman’s carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
The partnership includes feasibility studies, infrastructure planning, and commercial strategy development, all aligned with Oman Vision 2040. It also opens doors for local investment and strengthens the country’s position as a clean energy leader in the region.
“This is a milestone in transforming environmental challenges into economic opportunities,” said be’ah CEO Tariq Ali Al Amri. OQ Trading’s Said Talib Al Maawali added that the project will diversify Oman’s energy mix and drive future waste-to-energy innovations.
This initiative underscores Oman’s broader commitment to sustainable development and low-carbon energy solutions in line with global environmental trends.
