Project developer Norwegian Hydrogen has made a final investment decision on a 25MW green hydrogen facility in Rjukan, southern Norway, with an estimated cost of NKr 750 million ($71.5 million).
The company acquired the project from fellow Norwegian developer Aker Horizons in January for an undisclosed sum. A long-term power purchase agreement is already in place with local utility Tinn Energi, which will supply hydroelectricity.
While Norwegian Hydrogen had previously been reserved about the development timeline, it now confirms that operations are scheduled to begin by the end of 2027. The facility will supply green hydrogen to both existing and new customers in southern Norway and parts of Sweden.

Norwegian Hydrogen currently supplies H₂ from its first 3MW project in Norway to Swedish start-up GreenIron. The company has also signed a term sheet with Uniper to supply 42,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually—classified as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin under EU regulations—starting as early as 2029. A binding hydrogen sale and purchase agreement is expected to be finalized by June this year.
