The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has unveiled a comprehensive plan to invest ₹450 crore in critical water infrastructure projects in preparation for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2028.
This large-scale initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted and safe water supply during the mega religious event, which attracts millions of pilgrims from across the country and abroad. The planned investments will include the construction of new water and sewage treatment plants, expansion and modernization of water distribution networks, the installation of additional pumping stations, and enhanced water storage systems.
A key component of the project will also be the purification and rejuvenation of the Godavari River, a vital source of water and a significant element of religious importance during the Kumbh Mela. The upgrades to treatment facilities will improve the quality and quantity of water supplied to the city, helping the NMC avoid shortages and ensure public health and hygiene.
By strengthening its water management infrastructure, Nashik aims to position itself as a well-prepared host city for one of India’s largest spiritual gatherings while addressing the broader needs of its growing urban population.
