NEXTCHEM Awarded Study/Pre-FEED Contract for 500,000-Ton Per Year Low-Carbon Fertilizer Plant in France

MAIRE has announced that its subsidiary, NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions), has been awarded a feasibility study and pre-FEED (front-end engineering design) contract by FertigHy. The contract will leverage NEXTCHEM’s NX Stami Green Ammonia and NX Stami Nitric Acid technologies, integrating hydrogen and electrolyzer expertise into a comprehensive technical solution.

FertigHy, a consortium formed in 2023, includes key shareholders such as EIT Energy, RIC Energy, MAIRE, Siemens Financial Services, InVivo, and Heineken. This collaboration exemplifies European industrial players’ commitment to investing in the region for ongoing economic decarbonization.

The initial plant, set to begin construction in 2027, will produce 500,000 tons per year of low-carbon nitrogen-based fertilizers using hydrogen derived from renewable and low-carbon electricity. The consortium plans to replicate this integrated concept across other European countries, aiming to reduce emissions by up to one million tons of CO2 per plant annually.
