Nedgia, the gas distribution company of the Naturgy Group, has signed 45 contracts to connect biomethane plants to its network, enabling the injection of renewable gas into the gas distribution system. These contracts represent an injection capacity of 2,400 GWh per year, which is equivalent to the annual gas consumption of nearly half a million homes in Spain.
The contracts are distributed across several autonomous communities, with 13 in Castilla y León, 10 in Castilla-La Mancha, eight in Catalonia, five in Galicia, four in Andalusia, three in Navarre, and two in the Valencian Community. Notably, 70% of the total biomethane injection volume is concentrated in Castilla y León (630 GWh/year), Castilla-La Mancha (586 GWh/year), and Catalonia (449 GWh/year).
Nedgia currently has seven biomethane generation facilities connected to its network, with a combined injection capacity of 200 GWh per year. Additionally, 14 more facilities are either under construction or in the final stages of administrative processing, with a total injection capacity of 741 GWh per year, set to be connected to the Nedgia network in the near future.
Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia, highlighted the market’s strong interest in developing renewable gas production facilities. He emphasized the need for regulatory measures to provide greater investment certainty, similar to those in place in other European countries, to ensure the success of these and future projects.
