Montenegro to install a cement plant in Pljevlja

Montenegro is experiencing a construction boom, which has sparked discussions about building a new cement plant in the country. The Jagnjilo site, located near the town of Pljevlja, has been identified as a key location due to its abundant reserves of marl, a crucial raw material for cement production, according to the Ministry of Mining, Oil, and Gas.

In July 2023, a working group released a feasibility study evaluating the potential for this project. The proposed cement plant, designed to adhere to strict environmental standards, aims to contribute to Montenegro’s economic diversification. Additionally, the plant would utilize by-products from the nearby Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (210MW), helping to reduce its environmental footprint. This project is expected to address the country’s cement supply needs while minimizing the power plant’s negative impact on the environment.
