Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) business, in collaboration with Spanish firm Lantania, has been awarded a significant contract by ACWA Power — a leading developer in the Middle East — to construct the Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia. In this joint venture, L&T takes the lead role.
The Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant is designed to produce 300,000 cubic meters of potable water per day using advanced seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology. The project includes the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the entire facility.
Key elements of the project scope involve the development of intake and outfall systems, process units, pumping stations, a 600,000 cubic meter drinking water storage reservoir, specialized electrical facilities, and comprehensive automation and instrumentation systems. Additionally, a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will be integrated to enhance the project’s sustainability.
Once completed, the plant will supply clean drinking water to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions, directly benefiting approximately one million people.
This marks L&T’s second major desalination contract in Saudi Arabia in recent times, further reinforcing its position and commitment to expanding operations across the Middle East. This strategic win not only bolsters WET’s regional presence but also highlights its dedication to delivering vital infrastructure solutions in key markets.
