Lilly Eyes $5.9B Biomanufacturing Plant in Houston

Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly is considering the development of a $5.9 billion biomanufacturing facility at McCord Development’s Generation Park in Northeast Houston. If approved, the project would mark one of the largest life sciences investments in Texas history.

The proposed facility is expected to generate approximately 600 high-quality permanent jobs across operations, research, and technical services, along with an estimated 2,000 temporary construction jobs during the building phase.

Strategically located within the 4,300-acre Generation Park business hub, the plant would significantly expand Eli Lilly’s production capacity for innovative biologic medicines, including diabetes and cancer treatments. It also reinforces Houston’s emergence as a major center for biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

The Houston project is part of Eli Lillys broader global expansion strategy to strengthen its supply chain resilience and meet growing demand for biologics. The company has made similar high-value investments in North Carolina and Ireland in recent years. If realized, the Houston facility would play a critical role in boosting domestic biomanufacturing capabilities and enhancing the U.S. pharmaceutical supply infrastructure.
